昔の文学には、興味深いのがたくさんありますね。学校でいろいろ習ったときは、特にあまり感じなかったのですが、ある程度大人になってから、それらのものに接すると風情が感じられます。最近のものもご紹介しています。では、よろしく御願い致します。

ARIEL

ARIEL（エリアル）とは、笹本祐一の手によるSF小説。刊行はソノラマ文庫。1986年から雑誌「獅子王」にて連載され、「獅子王」の休刊後は、書き下ろしとなり2004年に全20巻をもって完結した。イラストは鈴木雅久。過去にはOVA化、カセットドラマ化もされている。
作品概要

国立科学研究所ことSCABAIの岸田博士は、女性型の大型ロボット兵器ARIEL(エリアル　ALL ROUND INTERCEPT&ESCORT LADY：全領域要撃／支援レディ)を開発し、そのパイロットに姪の河合美亜と孫の大学受験生の絢、高校生の和美の3人を指名する。折しも地球よりも遥かに進んだ科学力・軍事力を持つ宇宙人による地球侵略が起こり、エリアルは迎撃のために出動し辛くも宇宙人の侵略から地球を防衛した。

一方の侵略者である宇宙人の大型宇宙戦艦オルクスは、銀河帝国から惑星侵略を請け負っている三流侵略企業ゲドー社に所属しており、本社が破産寸前であるために予算が下りず、満足に侵略行動が出来ない状態であった。そういった所に宇宙の壊し屋の「星壊し（スターブラスト）」セイバーや一流の巨大侵略企業の大艦隊、更にはオルクス艦長アバルト・ハウザーの姉などが現われ、宇宙人側でも様々な思惑が交差するようになり、地球もその中に巻き込まれていく。物語の特徴として、巨大ロボットもの、侵略もの、スペースオペラ、ファーストコンタクトなどのSF的な要素が盛り込まれており、また全52話の構成（つまりTVアニメの1年間4クールの放送話数）となっている。

地球人

河合美亜（かわい　みあ）

:エリアルチーフパイロット。岸田博士の姪。大学生。

岸田絢（きしだ　あや）

:エリアルメインパイロット。岸田博士の孫。岸田家の長女。都立井の頭西高校3年～大学受験に失敗して浪人。

岸田和美（きしだ　かずみ）

:エリアル砲手。岸田博士の孫。岸田家の次女。白由希女子学園高校生。お気楽で能天気な所がある。

岸田博士（きしだはかせ）

:SCABAI所長にしてARIEL開発者であるマッドサイエンティスト。大正生まれ。下の名前は最後までわからないままであった。

天本教授（あまもときょうじゅ）

:SCABAI医学研究所責任者。医学博士。岸田博士とは帝国大学時代からの同級であり、負けず劣らずのマッドサイエンティスト。下の名前は最後まで不明。

羽那らいてう（はな　らいてう）

:SCABAI警備主任。岸田、天本とも古くからの知り合い。長刀を振るう。通称おばば。

岸田あゆみ（きしだ　あゆみ）

:岸田博士の亡き妻。エリアルのモデルとなった。長崎の原爆で他界。

西島由貴（にしじま　ゆき）

:白由希女子学園高校生。和美の同級生で口が達者。宇宙人との交渉では主役を張る。

香月英美（かづきえみ）

:通称エミ。和美の同級生。

研究所員A

:巨漢。担当機はおめでたナイトホーク。

研究所員B

:優男。担当機は水玉ハリアー (航空機)|ハリアー。コンピューター系に強い。

研究所員C

:研究所員A、Bに比べて影が薄い（本編での登場はたった一度というのがその理由）。
宇宙人

アバルト・ハウザー

:ゲドー社A級戦艦オルクス艦長。美形。ソノート卿ハウザー伯爵家第三子。高い作戦指揮能力を持つ。

シモーヌ・トレファン

:戦艦オルクス経理部長。ゆるいウェーブのプラチナブロンドの美女。

デモノバ

:オルクス参謀副官。かなりの切れ者。

ナミ・ファランドール

:オルクス工作員0073として地上任務につく。その際に白由希女子学園に入り、和美と同級になる。

ダイアナ・ハウザー

:ハウザー家第一子。長女。オフィス・リムゲートの代表。「リムゲートの魔女」と呼ばれる。

シンシア・ハウザー

:ハウザー家第二子。次女。核恒星系ユニバーシティのノースロップ研究所在籍。一流のハッカーで、「ノースロップの究極兵器」と呼ばれる。

シェラ・ハウザー

:ハウザー家第四子。三女。アバルトの妹。「星壊し」セイバーを追いかけて地球にまでやって来て、白由希女子学園に通うようになる。物を壊す天才的な才能を持っている。

ゲルハルト・ソノート・ハウザー

:ハウザー家当主。アバルトやダイアナ達の父親。銀河帝国軍第三艦隊の司令官。ソノート卿ハウザー家は銀河帝国でも上級の軍人貴族の家柄である。

クレスト・セイバーハーゲン

:放浪の宇宙戦士。「星壊し（スターブラスト）」セイバーの異名を持つ。銀河帝国正規軍一個艦隊も壊滅させるほどの攻撃力の持ち主。

クレディア・シヴァハーゲン

:「星壊し」セイバーの妻。セイバーの事を宿六と呼んでいる。セイバーすらかなわない力の持ち主である。

ニコラス・フィーラー

:地球換算年齢14歳にて侵略企業ビッグ３の大手フログレンス社の第37遊撃艦隊司令を務める天才少年。自称倒錯美少年。

トマス・ゲルニカ

:大手兵器メーカーゲルニクス社社長レックス・ゲルニカの三男坊。相当の切れ者でダイアナの事がお気に入りらしい。

アーレイ・スタッフォード

:ゲルニクス社所属戦艦グレン・ゲルニカ艦長。アバルトの士官学校時代の教官。通称「騙し討ちのアーレイ」。
その他

ユリ・シギア

:時間管制局に追われているタイム・トラベラー。23世紀生まれ。鴫山悠理の別名を使う事もある。

ジョー・マックスウェル

:時間管制局のエージェント。テキサンのジョーと名乗って美亜達の前に現れた。
